October 4

The siding is almost done. Basement steps are being repaired. Will be ready for painting pretty soon.

September 30

The plumbing and wiring is all roughed in. The sheetrock is up and taped. The front and back porches are almost finished. The basement entry is blocked in and backfilled.

September 18

The roof is finished and the house is pretty much weatherproof. The plumbers were in and roughed in most of the water-lines, drain lines and baseboard heating. The windows should be in this week and the house ready for insulation this weekend.

September 9

Roof is nearly done

September 5

Second floor framing is going up

The first floor walls are almost all complete. The main beam is in place and the second floor joists are being installed to support the second floor.

August 31

First floor framing is going up

The rain on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday varied between light, steady and torrential. Despite this, dedicated volunteers removed the forms, set up support columns, main beams, first floor joists and much of the first floor plywood.

On Wednesday, the cement block wall for the bathroom extension was built, blocking installed between the first floor joists and complicated sill and joist work completed on front part of the house.

On Thursday, most of the first floor walls were framed and raised.

August 25

The concrete foundation is done!

Although the forecast was for cloudy this morning and possible showers in the afternoon, just as the concrete truck arrived, it started to rain and poured for much of the three hours that it took to wheelbarrow, shovel, rake and bucket-carry the concrete. The concrete slab was covered with plastic to keep the rain off - usually it is to keep the moisture in.

About 12 volunteers worked feverishly to get the job done and were soaked but happy when it was finished.

August 12

The demolition permit has been received and and the house is down - time to rebuild!

July 29

Progress was very slow between early June and this week as work had to be stopped due to asbestos issues. The asbestos abatement was completed this week and we are waiting for the demolition permit to be issued before demolition can be resumed.

We were able to clean out some of the debris remaining in the house, remove nails from the trim that had been removed earlier, take out the boiler, radiators, water heater and all the plumbing pipe.

The photo below shows the house as it stands today with the asbestos siding removed.

June 4

Although it is had to tell from the photos below, the inside has been almost completely gutted. The plaster walls and ceilings have all been removed and all the fiberglass and rockwool insulation has been removed. Large quantities of debris in the basement has also been removed. The door and base trim has been removed with hopes of cleaning it up and reusing it.
